KICKBOXING:
Kickboxing has many forms including points, semi contact, light continuous, full contact, low kick, k1 & more open rule sets like the Shikon/Shidokan style.
American Kickboxing focuses on kicks above the waist with no clinching, low kicks or knee strikes. The Japanese styles include clinch techniques, knee strikes and low kicking techniques. Kickboxing is famous for its dynamic, fast & hard hitting combinations and has earned its respect as one of the best and most favoured striking arts in the world.
Here at The Martial Arts Centre Long Eaton we teach the Japanese style of Kickboxing that focuses on punches, kicks, knees, clinch fighting & sweeping techniques.
KYOKUSHIN KARATE:
Developed and created by the legendary Sosai Mas Oyama, Kyokushin is the mother art of all Japanese Kickboxing styles and is known as the strongest form of Karate. It is a bareknuckle style of striking that creates fierce fighters but also through the nature of training which is shared by all Karate styles it promotes peace, humility, consideration, decency & respect. Kyokushin as a style is widely regarded as one of the most respected and effective striking styles in the world and has millions of practitioners, of all ages, worldwide.
AIKIDO:
This beautiful & effective martial art was created by Morihei Ueshiba with the intention to allow practitioners to protect themselves by redirecting an opponents aggressive intentions and energy back onto themselves but in a way that allows their attacker to come to no harm if the practitioner should so wish. This is one of the profound differences of this style. Most arts look to protect the individual, if required, with effective techniques that will indeed cause harm. Aikido in this way is very much an art that promotes peace both outwardly & inwardly. It is widely known for its use of pivoting footwork, ukemi (break falling techniques), throws, sweeps, restraint techniques and traditional Japanese weapon techniques.
SHOOTBOXING:
This is a highly versatile, explosive & dynamic martial art & sport. Japanese in origin, it fuses kickboxing/Thai boxing with Judo/wrestling techniques making it a highly effective form of unarmed self defence. It incorporates punches, kicks, knees, elbows to head, body & legs. It allows for all clinch fighting techniques including striking inside the clinch for unlimited amounts of time. All takedowns, throws, trips, slams & sweeps are permitted as are standing submissions such as chokes, armlocks & shoulder locks.
SVT Knockdown:
A brand new combat sport that fuses Japanese Kickboxing, Shootboxing & kyokushin Karate together. It is without question the most open ruleset available in the world for striking based martial arts. Practitioners wear a blue or white SVT Knockdown Gi and depending on the which class they are competing under will dictate what type of safety equipment is required. All info about this sport can be found via its official website www.svtknockdown.co.uk
